DIVA EVE TOURS DOWN UNDER

Eve began her rise to fame when she entered the 2007 Diva Search, a talent competition run by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Making her debut on the wrestling television show Smackdown in 2008, Eve was involved in various aspects of the show, from dance competitions and arm wrestling, to interviewing wrestling champions such as World Heavyweight Champion Batista.

In October 2009, Eve made the move to the Raw brand, where everything you
see on the television is live action. “It’s new, it’s different. It’s like the first day at a different school, except you know most of the kids,” says Eve.

She was recently in Australia for the first time promoting the Official WWE Tour. We took the opportunity of meeting her to discuss her training.

From Jiu-Jitsu (she is a Blue Belt) to hip-hop dancing, kickboxing and running, there’s nothing this green-eyed girl can’t do! “I always find new challenges. Any time your body gets used to a certain kind of workout you plateau and don’t really grow as an athlete.”

Travelling all over the world, Eve has seen her fair share of gyms, but one thing is for sure: regardless of the country, weather, or the time, she rises to the challenge. “I can make anything work. I actually like rugged and rusty gyms. It forces me to be creative with my workouts. It’s fun.”

You can see just by looking at her strong and muscular frame that when it comes to her training, it’s head down for this girl. Constantly strapped for time, Eve’s training consists of circuits with weights, sprints and intervals, with Jiu-Jitsu and dance on her days off.

Eve’s body has undergone big changes in the last ten years. Going from gymnastics to dancing, she needed to be thinner. “It was hard for me, I was doing a lot of cardio and I didn’t touch the weights for a year. I really missed it.”

Since winning the WWE Diva Search, Eve has been pumping those muscles like never before. In fact, her friends are right there telling her to stop flexing her muscles!

Looking at her body you would think she was born with it, but no. “I’m not naturally thin. I’ve always had to work very hard for my physique and to keep my image up. Luckily I enjoy it.”

Constantly on the road, going from show to show, Eve admits eating healthy isn’t always a ‘piece of cake’. “We’ll get out of a show at 11.30pm, and the only thing that’s open is McDonald’s.” But she makes it work, allowing herself a meal she wouldn’t necessarily have every day and eating well at the next meal.

“The most important thing is food and energy, that’s why you eat. If I feel like vegetables, give me that.”

So what’s her secret? Everything in moderation and eating balanced meals. She also tends to stay away from carbohydrates late at night. As her body is getting ready for sleep she doesn’t need the energy from those types of food.

When it comes to her matches, Eve says it’s all about getting out there and just doing it. “My first match I was so nervous backstage, but it’s about channelling that adrenaline into good energy, focusing on what you’re there to do.”

For all you wrestling freaks out there who are looking to start in this sport, Eve stresses the most important thing is getting proper training. Growing up, her friends and family were not into fitness, so she has been motivating herself to go to the gym from the age of 12 and she wouldn’t have had it any other way. “It’s one of the hardest things for women to overcome, that fear of going to the gym by themselves. But it’s important to push yourself and not rely on other people.”

Next up, Eve is looking for a championship run. “I know it’ll come, it’s just a matter of time and opportunity.”

No doubt, she will leave her mark on the WWE stage very, very soon and we’re looking forward to that day! Until then Eve awaits her return to Oz, where she will be able to relax and spend some time getting to know us Australians. M&F
